The tablets are on the rise since last year, but its sales levels are not necessarily well known. Faced with hundreds of millions of computers and smartphones past year, the tablets do not weigh much. According to IDC, only 7.2 million units were shipped in the first quarter of 2011. But the rest of the year should be interesting.

This is slowly beginning of the year for the sector of touch pads. Indeed, with 7.2 million products sold, the market was down 28% on the previous quarter. The latter, however, was the best in its history, and more conducive to sales, holiday season requires.

Despite the decline, this does not prevent IDC optimism. Result, the Institute sees the market reaching 53.5 million units this year. Its previous forecast was counting on 50.4 million units.

Here is the history of shipments of tablets according to IDC (market share from Apple):
* 2nd quarter 2010: 3.3 million (90%)
* 3rd quarter 2010: 4.5
