Google Docs merge cell vertically

Google has announced some new information about GMail mobile version, but also a change in Docs, and more specifically on the worksheets. This last was expected for a time, it is now possible to make a vertical cell merge.

Still wondering how this could not be integrated as soon as it is a minor feature. It is of course possible to combine it with a merge to the horizontal, and then to cancel all with a single click.
