Sony Would be Close to Buy Out Ericsson

Sony is close to find an agreement to buy back the participation held by Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson’s in their joint venture specialized in the production of multimedia handsets, reports the Wall Street Journal Thursday, citing sources close to the operation.

Sony wants to perform completely on mobile phone production in the future. The Japanese wanted to coordinate again better the development of various electronic devices such as Smartphones, tablets and computers thereby.

Sony and Ericsson had merged their mobile phone businesses in the joint venture. Formed in 2001, the joint venture has failed to establish its presence, with a market share of around 3% after having peaked at 9%. Sony Ericsson wrote frequently in the past losses. With a focus on the Google Android operating system, the company was most recently but again successful.
